Silly Things (including me)

Last night Lily and the cute little Things came to stay overnight at our house. Thing 2 was a screaming monster in the car on the way home. When Lily asked her to stop screaming in her ear, Thing 2 bit her. Which is why she ended up sitting on the couch in time out when we got home, instead of doing anything fun. Thing 1 was singing to herself on the way home, trying to ignore the horrible noise emanating from Thing 1. Thing 2 got to play the piano, and she did it very nicely, not pounding on the keys.

When it was time to go to bed, Naanii the Nazi made both Things stay laying down. Thing 1 was asking questions about the things she could see from her bed. She didn't know the right words to ask about something, so she went to get up so she could point to it, and Naanii said "No, we are not getting up. We are going to stay in bed laying down." Thing 1 said, "I am not going to talk to you! I am going to sleep!" Ooh...way to rebel, Thing 1! Thank you!

I was silly again in the night! The big girls had gone to watch a movie at a friend's house, and were getting a ride home. I was tired and went to rest on my bed while I waited for them to come home. Unfortunately, I fell asleep. When I woke up, it was 12:20 and the porch light was still on! I was about to freak out because they were so late...but then I checked their beds, and they of course were in them and asleep, but had left the light on. Silly me!

A tale of three sisters - the PREquel

If you have been waiting for an ending to the story of Lily and the cute little Things, I am not ready for that yet...but here is what happened before...

It was Lily's birthday! Since most people prefer to play on their birthday rather than work, Kay thought it would be the same for Lily. So Kay arranged for a grown-up friend (whom we will call Nella) to babysit Thing 1 and Thing 2, and Lily got the evening off to enjoy herself with some friends.

Nella thought she would take a stroll outside with the Things. Nella went outside. Thing 1 went outside. But Thing 2 had different ideas: wouldn't it be funny to SHUT the door instead of going OUT the door! And then click that button! Yes, Thing 2 knew how to LOCK the deadbolt, but not how to UNLOCK it. And so, using this superior knowledge, Thing 2 quickly shut the door and locked the deadbolt. There was Nella with Thing 1 OUTSIDE, and Thing 2 INSIDE. She thought that was pretty funny to look out the window on the stairwell and see Nella and Thing 1 pounding on the door saying "Let me in!"

But Thing 2 didn't know how to open the door...so she couldn't do it. And it wasn't so funny anymore, and kind of lonely in the house by herself.

Nella remembered the sliding door into the kitchen. She ran around the outside of the house with Thing 1, and they began to knock on the sliding glass door. Thing 2 was happy to see them through the glass. Nella pointed at things, and yelled instructions through the glass, and finally, after a lot of effort, Thing 2 figured out how to unlock the sliding door, and let Nella and Thing 1 into the apartment!

They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing; less than a week after learning this new skill, little Thing 2 and her little bit bigger sister Thing 1 put their new-found knowledge to work. In the middle of the night. While Lily was sleeping.
