Crazy-busy the past few weeks: Josie had two auditions and one call-back a couple of weeks ago. Seemed like every day we were running up to SLC for something. She was cast in a commercial and a short film. Last weekend was busy with the filming of the commercial. This week, she had a couple of rehearsals for the film.
And this is how today went:
6:15 AM (yes, on a Saturday) get up and make sure Josie is up.
7:00 AM arrive at BYU. Start loading gamelan instruments.
8:30 AM arrive at Riverton High School for "Day of Percussion. Unload gamelan instruments in a crazy strong wind that is strong enough to move carts with gamelan instruments on them--and they are NOT light.
9:00 AM stage set-up and sound check and rehearsal.
9:30 AM put on costumes.
10:00 AM concert and demonstration--this was awesome! We played so well--and after three years of playing, I was totally NOT nervous today. First time! Felt so good!
11:00 AM very quick take-down so the next presenters could go on stage. Costumes off. Load the instruments back into the vans. The wind still blowing really hard; blew one of the small gongs over and broke a strap on it. Blew a cart of two gangsas into another card of two gangsas, causing a slight crack.
11:30 AM lunch for the ensemble.
12:15 PM back into the vans to come back to Provo.
12:45 PM unload the vans (with half as many people, because some were staying at the Day of Percussion all day)--randomly, there was a young man dressed totally like Jesus (you have seen pictures where he is dressed in white with a red robe over top--that was totally what he looked like. Same hair and beard. Only he had a skate board tucked under his arm) who stopped to ask Josie, whose hands were very full, if he could help her with a box.
1:35 PM finish unloading and putting everything away.
1:40 PM help random senior citizens lost in the bowels of the HFAC to find their way to the DeJong Concert Hall for a 2 pm matinee concert.
2:00 PM arrive home; put in a load of laundry; change clothes.
2:30 PM drive to SLC...
3:10 PM to drop Bruce at his parents' house so he can drive them to Don and Mary's 50th wedding anniversary celebration.
3:25 PM Josie and I arrive at the aforementioned celebration; visit with Kelli and the twinners (Thing One and Thing Two) for a few minutes.
3:35 PM open the door for Bruce and Grandma with Grandpa in the wheelchair. Spend an enjoyable hour visiting with all the Phillips cousins, the Rose Park neighbors, my cousins Phil and Sally, sister-in-law Judy with Wally and Carlie.
4:35 PM Bruce leaves to take his parents home.
5:00PM Josie and I leave because, during the post-party clean-up they are playing country music really loud, and the library has trained me very well that loud music means it is time to go!
5:30 PM Josie and I go to Murray Park to meet the film crew. They are doing photo stills for the movie. And I forgot my book! And it is too cold to go for a walk outside, at least if you are a wimp like I am. So I take time to call a few people and text a few people and then take a little nap.
6:30 PM Josie and I drive to Grandpa and Grandma's house to pick up Bruce. We go in and visit for about an hour.
7:30 PM we drive home.
8:10 PM in the house and finishing up that load of laundry, putting dishes in the dishwasher, doing random house work...until now when I am sitting down to write this blog. So tired; too tired to sleep, and besides, Josie is out with friends so I am under the motherly obligation to wait up for her.
So...that was my busy day today.
