Four days after school began, on September 17, Kelli came home with a
letter from the principal: enrollment was much higher than anticipated.
To alleviate crowding in the kindergarten, ten children were selected to
move to a combination K/1 classroom. Kelli was one of the children who
would move to Nancy Roche's class. (She later married and became Mrs.
Moore.) 
September 17 was also Lance's birthday. At his party, Kelli, Abbi and Jenna played "Musical Dress-up Clothes." Don't they look funny? [and also cute?]
September 21 -- Kelli went back to Dr. Jackson for her school ear check-up. He was really pleased with the way Kelli's left ear has improved. Her tympanograph shows that her hearing is right where it should be. But her right ear has a funny tympanograph! In fact, Dr. Jackson said that he doesn't know quite what to make of it. He said it was the most unusual tympanograph he has ever seen, and he doesn't know if that is good or bad. Usually, if an ear is deaf, the line goes straight across at the bottom, and if hearing is partially restored, there will be some kind of peak. But Kelli's does neither!
On Sept. 22, Kelli got "engaged"! Jerry Sadler, Kelli's friend who shares her October 14 birthday, has "liked" her for a long time. Today, during Jerry's sister Marisa's piano lesson, Kelli and Jerry decided they ought to get married. Jerry's mom, Stefani, overheard, and she thought it would be great. Engage them to each other now, and 15 years from now, every thing would be settled! No dating hassle. However--after Jerry went home, Kelli said he had changed his mind...
September 29 -- Kelli got the "Best Public Speaker" award in her class for her "sharing presentation." According to her award, she was prepared, looked at the audience, used complete sentences and spoke loudly and clearly. Good job!
September 30 -- Bruce and I were really proud of Kelli! Out of all the ten kindergarten children who were moved to Miss Roche's first grade class, Kelli is the only one who does work with both the kindergarten children and the grade one children. Her reading comprehension is right up there with the first grade children. Miss Roche told me that Kelli's small motor movements are not as advanced as her comprehension level. That makes sense, though, because while I have encouraged the girls in reading and learning, my own small motor skills aren't that great [I am, was, and probably will continue to be a bit of a klutz.] so I haven't really tried to teach them things I have trouble with myself.
