September 1982

September 4, 1982 -- Kelli got to have her hair cut at "Je Boutique" [seriously! Je boutique? I mean, it is nice to be all elegant and use French, but really? that makes no sense in French--and it still exists--if you google Je Boutique you get El Cajon College of Beauty] Kelli was asking to have her hair cut for a long time and was so excited to have it done today. A girl named Lisa cut Kelli's hair. Kelli sat so still and quiet for Lisa, and was very cooperative. Sh looks really cute with her hair short, and loves it because it doesn't bother her ears at all!

September 6 was Labor Day, and we had so much fun because we got to spend the day with Daddy. We got up early and went for a ride. Then we went to visit Jenna and Lance for awhile. We went to a really neat playground in Ocean Beach. Kelli especially liked the slide that was like a spiral. Daddy played on it with Kelli and Abbi. We had lots of fun!

You can just see Kelli peeking out of the top of the slide.

September 10 was orientation day at Kelli's new school. She will be in Magnolia School. Her new teacher will be Mrs. Conrad. Kelli is SO excited about going to school!

September 13 -- Today was Kelli's first day of school. To make it start out good [well], last night her daddy gave her a special blessing before she went to bed. He blessed her with special protection, and that she would be able to learn and understand. Daddy was very emotional about having his little Kelli being so big that she can go to school!

This morning, Kelli got up right at 6:30, in order to have time to get everything done to be ready for school. Abbi and I walked Kelli to school. We stopped and took her picture so she will be able to remember how she looked and felt on this special day. Kelli took a special letter that she wrote especially for Mrs. Conrad. Isn't that neat that Kelli's teacher has the same last name as Grandpa and Grandma Conrad?

Since it is such nice weather in southern places like California, the hallways of the school are outside, with play areas between the classroom wings. In this picture, the children line up ready to go into Mrs. Conrad's classrom, while parents are watching.
Kelli's description of her first day of Kindergarten: We played games. We sang songs. We walked like Indians. We drew pictures. We heard stories.
